At 9:30 a.m. each Sunday, the sacrament of Holy
Communion is observed. The congregation, which usually numbers between fifteen
and twenty, gathers in the chancel of the church for a quiet meditative service
lasting approximately forty-five minutes.
Hymns and prayers bring us together in God’s presence and we follow the
Joint Common Lectionary readings for the day before sharing the bread and wine
of life.
John Calvin, the founding father of Presbyterianism, advocated weekly communion
and this service provides a good opportunity for people to get to know the
congregation in a quieter and more intimate setting. After the service we meet
in the vestry for coffee to which everyone is welcome.
At
11:00 a.m. each Sunday, the congregation gathers for worship in the
main body of the church. This service follows a pattern of worship and prayer,
readings and reflection. At the start of the service the congregational family
worships together and there is a time with the children. Then the infants and
children leave to follow their own programme in the crèche and
JUNIOR CHURCH.
Four times a year the Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at this service.
This takes place on the second Sunday of January, Palm Sunday and the first
Sunday of July and October. On these Sundays, there is no
9:30 a.m.
communion service. The Sacrament of Baptism is observed at this service by
arrangement with the Minister.
This service provides an opportunity to come into God’s presence to give thanks
and seek his guidance for the week that lies ahead. After this service coffee is
often served either in the church or in the Lecture Hall under the church
(orange juice and biscuits for the children!).
